Due to the work-at-home policy, many people are having more free time after completing their work. So there is more time to take care of your health and home. It’s also a good idea to find time to create a green space in your house. You can start with growing lovely little cactus to freshen up the atmosphere in your house. Though the current situation is quite depressing, you should not let it overcome you. Stay active and positive, for yourself and for your family.
Let’s begin creating our green space at home.
Necessary equipment
- 1. Loam soil
- 2. Sand
- 3. Charcoal
- 4. Flowerpot
- 5. Shovel
- 6. Spade
- 7. Hoe
Cactus planting steps
- 1. Mix loam soil with sand in the proportion of 2:1 to get well-drained soil. Then mix sand with gravel charcoal in the proportion of 3:1. The amount of total soil ingredients should match the size of the flowerpot. Then put the mixed soil in the pot.
- 2. Put cactus into the soil deep enough to cover its roots. Make sure that the plant is placed in the middle of the pot.
- 3. Cover the plant with soil and put Osmocote fertilizer to add nutrients to the soil. Decorate the pot with gravel.
- 4. After completing the process, water the plant and place it in a clear area that is exposed to sunlight. Make sure that the plant is exposed to sunlight at least 3-4 hours a day, and water it every few days.
Tips
In the rainy season, you should not repot too often because it might lead to root rot. But if it’s necessary to repot your plant, refrain from watering at least one week after the repot and put the plant where it gets exposed to light sunlight for a while before placing it with your other plants.
Proportion of potting soil for cactus
- 1. 3 portions of soil mixed with ground dried monkey pod leaves
- 2. 1 portion of gravel charcoal
- 3. 1 portion of coconut shell flakes
- 4. 1 portion of natural fertilizer
Growing cactus is not difficult but you need to be patient. The plant does not need intensive care. Just make sure that it gets exposed to light from time to time and water it every few days. If you can keep cactus alive, you can grow other plants as well. Don’t forget to check out the gardening corner at Big C or you can check out the gardening products online by. clicking here
