Mrs. Fastidious: How to Clean and Maintain your Shoes
Many people have gone back to the office, but some are still working from home or alternating between the two. This got me thinking about shoes. Even on days that we don’t wear them, we still have to take care of them so they can be ready once we need them. We can’t leave our shoes gathering dust until we go back to work. So today, I’m discussing how to take care of our shoes and how to clean them.
Be careful
Being careful about how you use your shoes is one simple tip to taking care of them. This will make them look like new and last longer. The key is to wear your shoes as if it was the first time you wore them. In other words, avoid stepping on dirt, mud and hard-to-wash stains.
Store well
Store your shoes well, as soon as you get home. Put them in their place to avoid further contact. You wouldn’t want to leave your shoes scattered around and have people in your house stepping on them and creating scratches and stains, right?
Let them sit in the sun
If you don’t wash your shoes regularly, letting them sit in the sun to kill germs and bacteria is something you must do. The sunlight will get rid of shoe odour. However, don’t expose them to the sun too long because the colour on your beloved shoes may fade.
Clean them
You can usually soak shoes in water and gently rub the dirt off them, or clean off only the dirty spots. Dirty shoes are a source of germs and bacteria, and you shouldn’t wear them. Sometimes your shoes may look clean on the outside but you can never be sure that they are truly clean on the inside. So I suggest cleaning them anyway to be safe.
Newspaper
Put crumpled newspapers inside the shoes you don’t often wear. This will get rid of odour and keep the shape of your shoes intact.
