If You Love Someone, Please Take Care of Them Series presents the Cat-Cow Yoga Pose for Back Pain

Today, I’ll introduce a yoga pose for back pain. The Cat-Cow Pose is a simple stretch that you can do before going to bed, or after waking up. If you do it regularly, it can help ease back pain.

Cat and Cow

The Cat-Cow Pose is a combination of two poses practiced together to gently warm up the spine and the abdomen for more challenging postures. Let’s learn how to perform each of the poses correctly.

Cat Pose

Put both of your hands and knees on the floor. Place your hands shoulder-width apart while your knees are hip-width apart. Make sure your knees are under your hips, and your wrists are under your shoulders. You are now in the All Fours Pose. Begin in a neutral spine position with your back flat. Then round your spine up towards the ceiling as much as you can, keeping your tailbone tucked under. Round your shoulders back so that your shoulder blades fall in line alongside your spine. Tuck your chin towards your chest, and let your neck release.

Cow Pose

The Cow Pose also begins on all fours. Make sure your wrists are directly under your shoulders and your knees directly under your hips. Lift your tailbone up to the sky, feel your belly drop and your back arching naturally. Lift your chest and head up. Make sure to keep your shoulders open and your tailbone tucked in.

If you do the Cat-Cow Pose regularly, it can help relieve back pain and improve your posture and balance. If you are looking for a yoga mat or other exercise equipment, they are available at Big C Super Center branches or you can order them from our online store here.
